March 6 & 13, 2016
Not only is Felix Mendelssohn’s esteemed St. Paul oratorio a coming-of-age work, it is also a masterpiece that secured Mendelssohn’s place in the front line of German composers. Mendelssohn based the work on the Acts of the Apostles and the conversion of Saul of Tarsus to Paul, the Christian missionary. The work is a moving musical symbol of spiritual transformation. Also, I’m happy to report that we will again be singing in my home parish of St. Gregory’s!
