March 5 & 6, 2022
The Tower Chorale’s next concert, Grant Us Peace, will include several powerful and inspirational pieces.
Joseph M. Martin’s “The Awakening” amplifies the healing power of music, offering “joy and glorious sound where there is emptiness.” “How Can I keep from Singing?” arranged by Leo Nestor, reminds us that even in our trials, “love is Lord of heav’n and earth, how can I keep from singing?” In a live encore performance, the Tower Chorale is excited to share the moving spiritual, “Ain’t no Grave,” arranged by Paul Caldwell & Sean Ivory. “I Dream a World,” by David L. Brunner, offers a hopeful vision of equality and a collective sharing in the bounties of the earth.
We bring an offering of peace with Ralph Vaughn Williams’s five movement cantata, Dona Nobis Pacem. With text taken from the Mass, poems by Walt Whitman, a speech to Parliament by John Bright, and the Bible, this plea for peace reminds us that through music, we find hope where there is despair, and can banish the darkness proclaiming, “Let music live!” -Joseph M. Martin.
